Stephen Ministry at Calvary UMC PDF Print E-mail

Are there occasions when you or someone you know and love might feel comforted by time spent with a good listener?  There are times when our lives feel a bit out of sync.  We need to heal from sorrow and other types of pain.  We need to express the difficulties of going through changes over which we have no control.  Family members or friends are struggling with their own problems and often find it hard to be good listeners.  We at Calvary offer a ministry that has helped people all over the world and can bring comfort to our own members and neighbors here in Arlington.

The Stephen Ministry program is a one on one caring ministry promising complete confidentiality.  We share what is said to us with no one.  Our 50 hours of training have taught us the importance of listening not advising or judging in any way.  We are dedicated and trained to share time with someone in need.  A meeting is arranged and a location agreed upon.  We work out a schedule that is satisfactory for both parties.

The Stephen Minister is a presence in the life of another person offering care while it is needed and remembering that only Christ offers a cure.  Our credo is Christ caring for people through people.  While we pray that the Holy Spirit will work through us we require no religious participation from our Care Receivers unless it is their wish.  If you feel that such a program would be beneficial please contact the church office and ask for a call back from the pastor or call one of Calvary's Stephen Leaders.

We would be so happy to speak with you, explain what we can offer and answer your questions.  Membership or attendance at Calvary United Methodist Church or any other church is not a requirement to seek assistance from the Stephen Ministry.

Ministering to Shut-ins or Those who are Ill.  In an attempt to help our pastor and our church Calvary's Stephen Ministers are developing a visitation ministry for those who have worshiped with us in the past and wish to keep their ties to Calvary strong.  Stephen Ministers are recruiting other Calvary friends to pair with them in this important and rewarding endeavor.  Please prayerfully consider this opportunity, and contact the church office if you can help.
