We hope you’ll find answers for today and hope for tomorrow at Calvary Church!

I feel privileged to share in ministry here in this friendly, international community of faith, with activities for young and old, families and singles, apartment dwellers and area homeowners.

Calvary is open to all persons, and I invite you to share in ministries of meaningful worship, friendly caring, and outreach to the community and the world. We want to help you grow in faith, and welcome your help in our following after Jesus Christ.

I hope you’ll find that God is good, and Jesus Christ is alive in our midst - even in difficult times. We hope you’ll grow with us, and find caring friends here at Calvary.

It's an exciting, challenging time to be alive! Please feel free to call our church (703) 892-5185, to browse our website, or seek help from our pastoral or church staff.        Steve Hassmer, pastor

Sunday, May 19, is called Pentecost Sunday because it comes 50 days after Jesus’ return from death to life at Easter. In chapter 24 of Luke’s account of Jesus’ life, the newly-alive Jesus tells his followers to wait in Jerusalem until the power of the Holy Spirit comes on them. So they waited and prayed.

Then on the 50th day, as Jesus’ disciples met in a Jerusalem that was filled with Jews from all over the known world (gathered for the Festival of Weeks) something happened that caught them off guard, as told in chapter 2 of Luke’s story of the Acts of the Apostles. It’s a story of fire (which is why we wear red that day to celebrate), wind, and strange tongues. It’s also the birth of the Christian Church. Read Acts, chapter 2, and pray we’ll experience Pentecost’s power May 19. Who knows? Maybe we’ll be surprised!
