The mission of the scholarship fund is to provide financial support for students pursuing college, postgraduate, trade certificate, or licensing studies, and to support Christian applicants of Calvary United Methodist Church (in Arlington, VA) whose education will assist them in living out their faith.
For many years The Calvary Foundation provided scholarships to students seeking higher education. Students from across the country received assistance from the fund. The fund was originally formed in 1970 as The Calvary Foundation, separate from the church. Calvary Church members and local residents known to be instrumental in its formation were Ruby and Lavon Linn, Woodrow “Woody” Walker, General Faw, and Mr. Roy Hale.
After careful consideration, the Board decided it was the right time to make some changes. In 2019, the Foundation was dissolved, and its assets donated to the Church to continue the Foundation’s core mission. A Scholarship Committee was established and has met to develop guidelines and an application.
The scholarship is available to any active participant (for at least two years) or member of Calvary United Methodist Church (Arlington, VA),regardless of age, who is enrolled in a certificate, career, or degree program.
